Building categories and building codes

The tables below show the different building categories and building codes (TEK) which are used in the model. The building category table shows what types of buildings are included under the main building category. The building categories are the same as defined in the building code except for “light industry and repairs”. From this category the model only uses the area attributed to storage and warehouses, and the category is then named “storage”.

Building categories and associated building types

House	Single houses and terraced houses.
Apartment block	Apartment blocks of two or more storeys, contains the area of multiple apartments.
Kindergarten	Kindergartens and buildings at playgrounds.
Retail	Shopping malls, gas stations, grocery stores, other retail buildings.
Hotel	Hotels, motels, hospits.
Sports	Sport halls, ice rinks, swimming facilities and gyms.
Office	City halls, police stations, fire stations, other offices.
Culture	Museums, libraries, religious buildings, other culture buildings.
School	Primary to highschool.
Nursing home	Nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities and health facilities.
Hospital	Hospitals and doctor offices.
University	Universities and laboratories.
Storage	Warehouses and freezing storage.

For already built area we assume that all area in a given building code is built the same year. This year is “building year” in the table below.
